In
my world ants have always had a very special place. Better part of my childhood
was spent observing ants than anything else. I am also quite fascinated by myrmecomorphy,
that is, the insects that mime ants, the most common being spiders and wasps. It
is in this context I am glad to inform that a spellbinding website, world’s
first ever ant map showing the distribution of ants around the globe, was
launched yesterday by the University of Hong Kong. http://antmaps.org/.
It is a colourful interactive online map which took four years to complete, and
displays the geographic locations of nearly 15,000 types of ants. What more can
one ask for?
